Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), model SAXSpace is new addition in SAIF, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The equipment is a powerful method for the structural characterization of both ordered and disordered materials in solution. The scattering is recorded at a very low angle from 0.1o to 10o. It provides information about the sizes and shapes of macromolecules material such as protein, surfactants, polymers, colloids, nanocomposites, food and pharmaceuticals ranging from 1 nm to 100 nm. It helps to calculate lattice parameters, radius of gyration (Rg), maximum Dimension (Dmax), partial-specific volume (Vp) etc.The SAXS instrument installed here is line collimation system equipped with Copper source and 2-D detector. The system has an option of WAXS and GISAXS facility also.
Data analysis: SAXS analysis is an ideal software for pre processing the data used for data evaluations such as normalization; buffer subtraction; data reduction etc. along with desmearing data.
For further data evaluation, various softwares are available like PCG softwares and other softwares like ATSAS; SASFIT; SANSview are easily approachable from their respective websites.
Sample Requirements:
The samples can either be in powder or in liquid form.
Monodispersive sample along with match buffer is required.
Concentration of the sample should be 5-20 mg/ml.
Sample volume should be approximately 1 ml for single experiment.
Measurements can be possible in the temperature range -30oC to 150oC.
Results: The results are given in pdh and dat format.
